January Border Crossing
City Council Meeting
During the month of January, you will be making a border crossing to attend a city council meeting. It may be your city or another city with a issue of interest. You may attend as individuals or as a group.
Prior to attending the city council meeting, go on line to review the agenda. Download and study any proposed ordinances for social justice implications.
Attend the city council meeting and make observations of the following:
- Ratio of the audience pro and con for the ordinance in question
- Points of view of the public comments.
- Discussion of the ordinance by the council.
- The vote on the ordinance
- Were there any social justice issues? Describe them.
- Describe your feelings and reactions after attending a city council meeting.
Write a border crossing report on the observations above. The report is due February 4th.
